One component that is noticeable in my EQ is the emphasis on positive patient experience. Now, what is a positive patient experience? That is in reference to having a pleasant visit while you are seeing the dentist.
Now in this blog I'll be discussing my first patient experience. Well, the administration of it per say. During the summer I was able to practice on fellow classmates doing a routine check of their teeth and a simple cleaning. In this exercise, we applied a dye to our patient's teeth and had to simply brush it all out to ensure a clean nice smile.
One bit of instruction that was highly emphasized was the fine detail of making sure your patient is okay. Whether it be making sure that the suction is working properly to siphon the saliva or if you're brushing too hard to rid of plaque, the number one priority was to ensure everything was pleasant for them.
In connection to my current mentorship, Dr. Hamedani, is very good at making sure her patients are comfortable and not facing any difficulties while she is with them. For example, the tone in her voice when dealing with children is a soothing one and different from her regular voice when she talks to me. Treatment as well is how she ensures that everything is running smoothly. She says that, " I need to be able to make my patients trust me, whether it be in the way I act or the tone of my voice it is very important that they trust me so I can get my job done. If all goes smoothly then they come back again knowing that they will be well taken care of."
In this profession it is very important that you have high patient satisfaction. With a reputation of being a bad dentist, not only will you lose patients but as a student of dentistry you will have lost the way of education you have taken.
